  • While psychiatrists are covered by Alberta Health Care, the fees for Psychologists, Speech Language Pathologists, Occupational Therapists, and Clinical Social Workers in private practice are covered by extended health plans, employee assistance programs, or self-pay. If you have extended health care benefits, you may have benefits or health spending accounts that will cover some or all fees for psychological/speech pathology/occupational therapy services. You need to check with your specific benefits plan to see if you are covered, but most plans include some amount of coverage for services provided by a Registered Psychologist, Registered Speech Language Pathologist, Registered Clinical Social Worker, and Registered Occupational Therapist. • Absolutely! Research has found that a good therapeutic relationship has a significant impact on the outcome of therapy. It is vital that you find a therapist that you connect with, as well as feel comfortable sharing your emotions and experiences as you work through difficult issues and gain insight. If you are wanting to see a different therapist, please email us at admin@childpsychologicalservices.ca or call 587-757-1607.

  • A full 24 hours notice is required for cancelling appointments. If you cancel with less than 24 hours before your appointment time, you will be billed a cancellation fee of $220. Clients who fail to show up for a scheduled appointment (“no show”) are billed for the full cost of their scheduled session — i.e. $220 for a therapy session, $440 for a 2-hour assessment appointment. The receipt will be marked “cancellation fee” or “missed appointment.” There is a range of valid reasons for cancelling an appointment. In order to be consistent with all clients, cancellation fees will only be waived in the event of a medical emergency requiring urgent professional treatment, a death in the family or a natural disaster.

  • Information that is shared during sessions is private and confidential. We do not release information about you or your child/adolescent to anyone without your written consent. However, there are three exceptions when we would have to break confidentiality: (1) if clients share information that leads us to believe that they or another person is at imminent risk of serious harm; (2) if clients share information that leads us to believe that a child (17 and under) or dependent adult is being abused or neglected; and (3) if clients become involved in a court case and therapy records are subpoenaed by a court of law. For children under 18 years of age, their legal guardians have the right to information that is being discussed in session. If parents/legal guardians would like us to share information about sessions with other professionals, we require a written release of information from all legal guardians.

  • FSCD is a resource that may be available to families who have a child under the age of 18 years old with a disability. FSCD can (should a child and family demonstrate need) help fund social skills groups, respite care, community aide care, counselling, as well as in-home support programs designed to help caregivers learn how to develop, design and implement learning and behavioural strategies. Families will need medical documentation from their physician or psychologist if they do not have an assessment report outlining the child and family's needs.
